Dubai is a small State located in the United Arab Emirates, in the eastern Arabic Peninsula, and on the south shore of the Persian Gulf. Dubai is close to many countries such as Iran - on the northern side of the Persian Gulf - Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman. There is also the six other Emirates: Abu-Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain.

The land is mostly plain and desertic, altought there is some mountains near the frontier with Oman. They are all parts of the Western Ajar Mountains. Some of them are more than 1 300 meters high.

The climate is very hot and dry. Temperature often reach 40 celcius ( 104 F ), and at 20 celcius locals believe it's a cold day. There is not a single natural river. Only a few gorges and waterholes. However the vegetation and wildlife is very rich, and with hundreds of exotic bird species Dubai is considered a paradise for birdwatchers.

The Dubai territory is not vast, and only covers 4 114 square kilometers, or 1 588 square miles. In comparison, the small Sate of Rhode Island is 1 214 square miles, and New Hamphshire is about 9 359.

The Time zone is UTC+4, so when it's noon in New York city it's already nine o'clock in the evening in Dubai.
